Jacquelyn Son is a Lifestyle Youtuber, Certified Personal Trainer, Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and Entrepreneur. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia. She hopes to inspire as many people as she can through her social media and let them know that they, too, can be a badass, create their own rules and live a lifestyle that they love.
How It Began: As a young girl, I didn’t pay much attention to sports or physical activity. Gym class was definitely not my favourite. I never dreamt that I would pursue a career in the fitness industry. It wasn’t until mid-university when something sparked my interest for fitness. I was unhappy with my body and sick of being that girl who had no coordination or strength. So, I decided to make a change. I began following workout videos with only a pair of dumbbells in my home. Since I was in my own home I didn’t have to worry about anyone judging me. Trust me, I know what it feels like to start from square one.
Soon, I started gaining more confidence and decided to join a gym. At this time, I didn’t know much about training or nutrition. I thought that boring bland ‘diets’ were the only way to become fit and healthy. Oh, how wrong I was. Even after experimenting with many popular ‘diets,’ I was frustrated that I could never get the results that I wanted. It was also incredibly difficult to stick to the them because of how poor my body and mind felt. Before I realized it, I had developed an unhealthy relationship with food. I struggled with restrictive eating, then out-of-control binge eating.
The process was tough, but I was eventually able to overcome my body image issues and kick my disordered eating habits in the butt. Through my own transformation, I became so passionate about living a healthy lifestyle that I wanted to help others do the same. Very soon after completing my undergrad, I decided to get certified as a personal trainer in 2014.
True health ain’t about diets or exercise, it’s about first transforming your mind. My hope is not for you to follow the ‘perfect’ training plan, but to stir up your inner motivation to give yourself the best you deserve.
